Dook
Edinburgh, 2018, Born in the Bathroom
Dook is a soap brand from Edinburgh, more precisely from the Portobello district, founded in 2018 by Helen Atherton. The name comes from Scots English: ‘dook’ means to dip or to splash. Atherton, a former primary school teacher, launched the brand with £1,500 of her own capital and a self-developed recipe. The first product was a rosemary and frankincense salt soap.
Handmade in Small Batches
Every Dook soap is made personally by Helen Atherton in her Edinburgh workshop. The base of each soap consists of 50% pink Himalayan salt, supplemented by organic coconut oil, raw organic shea butter and essential oils. No synthetic additives, no parabens, no palm oil.
Fragrance Compositions with Personality
What distinguishes Dook from other natural soaps are the fragrance compositions. Each scent is developed from essential oils and carefully balanced. The goal: a shower or bath experience that is more than just cleansing.
Small, Local, with Substance
Dook runs its own shop in Portobello and is listed on selected Scottish platforms such as Made Scotland and Hidden Scotland. The brand is a micro-enterprise with genuine craftsmanship and a strong Edinburgh connection.
